Number of Positions: 1 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)
Starting Salary: $73,140 annually
This position is open to the public and all current city employees covered under the City's Collective Bargaining Agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

GIS Analyst will be working on projects relating to Geographic Information System technology, programming & application development, spatial & tabular data processing, cartographic production & digital mapping, data management, data collection, and data entry. Analysts will work independently with minimal supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Accesses the City's GIS data repository to obtain base map data and data layers
• Gathers and updates field data using Global Positioning System (GPS) and other surveying instruments
• Assists in the creation of new data layers for inclusion in the department's database
• Prepare maps and reports with appropriate data layers illustrating requested data in geographic format to meet users' needs (e.g., use in Web applications)
• Reviews data sets provided by department staff for use in creating GIS maps
• Uses spreadsheets and GIS software to convert data sets to a GIS format
• Geocodes data files and manipulates data layers
• Assists in monitoring data files on the server and managing file storage disk space
• Assists departmental GIS users in accessing GIS data and using the software to produce maps
• Uses scripting language to create user interfaces and to automate time consuming or complicated tasks
• Assists in the design and maintenance of GIS databases and the City's centralized GIS repository
• Performs complex data analysis using ArcGIS and related extensions/add-ons, Oracle relational databases, and other computer software; understands and can apply the capabilities of GIS, databases, and other computer programs to solve complex spatial and relational problems.
• Designs and implements applications using ESRI web technologies.
• Conducts data analysis and preparation of documents, data reports, and maps.

Days: Monday - Friday
Hours: 8:00am - 4:00pm
Days Off: Saturday and Sunday

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate's degree in Computer Sciences, Information Technology/Systems, Geography, Urban Planning, or a directly related field, PLUS one (1) year of work experience using GIS software.
Should the above criteria not be fulfilled, the following options are acceptable: Three (3) years of work experience in using GIS software
NOTE: Candidates must pass a background investigation, drug screen, and other pre-employment procedures as determined by the Chicago Police Department
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected.
Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:
- Previous experience using ArcMap and ArcPro
- Proficiency using ArcGIS Server
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office
- Proficiency using Python Scripting
- Proficiency using Windows Computer Operating Systems
Evaluation: Your initial evaluation will be based on information provided on the application form and documents submitted with the application. Applications must be submitted by the individual applicant. No second party applicants will be accepted.
Residency Requirement: All employees of the City of Chicago must be actual residents of the City as outlined in 2-152-050 of the City of Chicago Municipal Code. Proof of residency will be required.
