This role collaborates closely with stakeholders business analysts and IT teams to ensure data structures are efficient scalable and aligned with organizational objective.
Responsibilities
- Lead conceptual, logical, and physical data modelling for cloud data platform use cases (reporting, analytics, and data products) on Snowflake.
- Translate business requirements into scalable data structures (e.g., dimensional models, data vault patterns where relevant, and normalized models for curated domains).
- Build and maintain ELT pipelines on Snowflake (curated layers, marts), partnering with ingestion teams to ensure reliable end-to-end data flow.
- Develop and optimize Snowflake database objects (schemas, tables, views) and implement transformation logic using SQL and/or dbt where applicable.
- Apply Snowflake performance and cost optimisation techniques (warehouse sizing, query tuning, pruning/clustering considerations, and efficient design patterns).
- Implement data quality checks, reconciliation controls, and monitoring/alerting to improve trust and reduce incidents.
- Collaborate with governance and security stakeholders to classify data, define access patterns (roles, masking, row-level policies), and ensure compliance with client controls.
- Produce and maintain source-to-target mappings, canonical models, and documentation (data dictionaries, lineage, and model diagrams).
- Work in Agile delivery (backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews) and provide estimates for modelling and engineering deliverables.
- Translate business requirements into scalable data structures (e.g., dimensional models, data vault patterns where relevant, and normalized models for curated domains).
- Partner with data engineers to align modelling decisions with ingestion, ELT/ETL patterns, and downstream consumption (Power BI/semantic layers, data sharing).
- Design Snowflake-optimized physical models (clustering considerations, partitioning/micro-partition behavior awareness, materialized views where appropriate) and support query performance and cost optimization.
- Support source-to-target mappings, canonical models, and integration patterns across multiple source systems.
- Drive model reviews, maintain model documentation, and ensure traceability from requirements to implemented structures.
- 7+ years of experience across data modelling and data engineering for enterprise data platforms (mining/resources exposure is a plus).
- Strong hands-on Snowflake experience delivering data engineering solutions (schema design, ELT development, and supporting production operations/performance).
- Advanced SQL skills for transformation development, data profiling, and validation/reconciliation.
- Expertise in dimensional modelling (star/snowflake schemas), conformed dimensions, and fact design for analytics.
- Experience producing conceptual/logical models and translating them into physical implementations.
- Experience with modern ELT patterns and tooling (dbt strongly preferred) and understanding of orchestration approaches (e.g., Airflow or similar).
- Working knowledge of DevOps practices for data: Git, code reviews, CI/CD, environment promotion, and release/change management.
- Working knowledge of data governance concepts: critical data elements, metadata, data quality, and stewardship processes.
- Strong stakeholder communication skills, able to facilitate workshops and explain modelling/engineering trade-offs.
- Hands-on Snowflake experience (designing schemas, understanding Snowflake features and how they impact modelling, and supporting performance tuning in partnership with engineering teams).
- Strong SQL skills (data profiling, validation queries, and supporting model-driven transformations).
- Expertise in dimensional modelling (star/snowflake schemas), conformed dimensions, and fact design for analytics.
- Experience producing conceptual/logical models and translating them into physical implementations.
- Working knowledge of data governance concepts: critical data elements, metadata management, data quality, and stewardship processes.
- Experience collaborating with ETL/ELT teams and understanding modern data pipeline patterns (batch and near-real-time).
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, facilitating workshops and model walkthroughs.
